Is it illegal to drive with a cracked windscreen in QLD?
It can be. In Queensland a windscreen is unroadworthy if the damage is in the driver’s line of sight, if a crack is longer than about 150mm, or if a chip in the primary vision area is bigger than around 16mm. Damage like that will fail a roadworthy (Safety Certificate) and can attract a fine and demerit points, so it’s worth fixing promptly.
Will my insurance cover a windscreen replacement?
Most comprehensive car insurance policies in Australia cover windscreen damage, though a glass excess usually applies unless you’ve added excess-free windscreen cover.
