Straight answers on insurance, cost and QLD roadworthy rules, so you know
exactly where you stand before you book.
Is it illegal to drive with a cracked windscreen in QLD?
It can be. In Queensland a windscreen is unroadworthy if the damage is in the driver’s line of sight, if a crack is longer than about 150mm, or if a chip in the primary vision area is bigger than around 16mm. Damage like that will fail a roadworthy (Safety Certificate) and can attract a fine and demerit points, so it’s worth fixing promptly.
Will my insurance cover a windscreen replacement?
Most comprehensive car insurance policies in Australia cover windscreen damage, though a glass excess usually applies unless you’ve added excess-free windscreen cover. Many insurers also allow one glass claim per year without affecting your no-claim bonus. We work with all major insurers and can handle the claim for you.
Should I claim on insurance or pay out of pocket?
It depends on the job. A chip repair (around $60–$80) is often cheaper than your insurance excess, so paying out-of-pocket avoids the excess and protects your no-claim bonus. For a full replacement, claiming usually makes sense. We’ll give you an honest recommendation either way, no pressure.
Can my windscreen be repaired, or does it need replacing?
A chip can usually be repaired if it’s smaller than a 20-cent coin, not directly in the driver’s line of sight, and not right at the edge of the glass. Longer cracks, edge damage, or anything in the driver’s vision generally needs a full replacement. Send us a photo and we’ll tell you straight away.
How long does a windscreen replacement take?
Most windscreen replacements take about an hour to fit. After that there’s a safe-drive-away time, usually 30 to 60 minutes, while the adhesive cures enough to drive safely. We always confirm your exact safe-drive-away time before we leave.
Do you come to me, or do I come to you?
Both. You’re welcome to visit our Moorooka workshop for a repair while you wait, or we’ll come to your home, workplace or roadside anywhere across Greater Brisbane, from the CBD out to Ipswich, Logan, Redlands and Moreton Bay.
How much does a windscreen replacement cost in Brisbane?
It depends on your vehicle. A basic windscreen replacement typically starts in the low hundreds, while windscreens with rain sensors, heads-up display or other built-in features cost more because of the specialised glass involved. The honest answer is to get a quick quote, send us your rego, make and model and we’ll give you a fixed price.

We cover all of Greater Brisbane, including the CBD, North and South Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Redlands and Moreton Bay. If you’re not sure whether you’re in range, just call us on 0422 104 006.
Is the glass and workmanship guaranteed?
Yes. Every windscreen we fit is quality glass, and we back our workmanship with a lifetime guarantee for as long as you own the vehicle. If anything isn’t right, we’ll make it right.
